What is the Hutan Project?
Tech Networks of Boston has a new way to partner with non-profit organizations, socially responsible businesses, and foundations to help save the world’s fastest-disappearing rain forest and the animals that live there.
The Hutan Project allows you to leverage your administrative costs in a uniquely creative way: 20 percent of your technology service contract will be used to support organizations like Orangutan Foundation International.
We understand that you have choices in purchasing technology services. The goal is not to solely partner with us in order to turn expenses into actions that will benefit the global community but also for you to receive a higher level of technology services that will support your mission.
Am I paying extra to participate in the Hutan project?
No. Tech Networks assumes the cost of the Hutan Project entirely. Service offerings available through the Hutan project are identically priced to our standard offerings and we offer the same discounts where appropriate.
What will I be getting from Tech Networks of Boston?
We have two service plans offered through the Hutan Project, both custom tailored to fit your exact needs.
The TechPlan, an all-inclusive managed IT service plan that combines remote monitoring, unlimited help desk support, regular on-site technical visits and CIO/CTO-level guidance.
Or our Technology Choice Plan, a monthly, flexible service plan of on-site and project-based support with rollover hours.
Why was this project started?
To solve our climate crisis, we are all going to need to step up our efforts to reduce CO2 emissions. By working with environmental organizations, Tech Networks and client partners like you can ensure that 1,800 square miles of prime rain forest habitat in Borneo is preserved, and this land can continue to sequester 1.8 million tons of co2 year after year. That is comparable to taking 2.3 million cars off the road every year!
Why does the Hutan Project support OFI?
Without OFI’s presence in Central Kalimantan, it is very likely that all of the remaining forest would be logged, burned, and planted with palm oil trees. With an annual budget of $900,000, Orangutan Foundation International preserves more than 1,800 square miles of rain forest. Our financial support and guidance will enable the organization to expand its reach through land acquisition and to protect the 6,000 wild orangutans who live there. Tech Networks of Boston works directly with the President of OFI to maximize the impact of these directed funds.
I feel that my organization is doing great work; why can’t I receive a 20% discount on my service contract instead?
We are very proud of our non-profit client base, which we have supported with deep discounts over many years. Now we are asking your organization to partner with us to help achieve our social mission. We also want to spread the word about Hutan, so we are offering a special benefit* to our Hutan Project clients who recommend other organizations to the program.
Why is Tech Networks working to save the Indonesian rain forest?
Indonesia is listed in the 2008 Guinness Book of World Records as the country that pursues the highest annual rate of deforestation. Rain forest destruction makes Indonesia the world’s third-largest greenhouse gas emitter, behind the U.S. and China. Worldwide, rain forests cover only 2 percent of the planet, but they produce 28 percent of the world’s oxygen, and harbor half of the world’s animal species. Yet the U.N. Environment Programme says that the Indonesian rain forest will be 98 percent gone by 2020.
Simply stated, the imminent destruction of the Indonesian rain forest is the world’s single most pressing environmental problem.
How does the Hutan Project work?
The Hutan Project makes direct, monthly contributions to OFI for preservation of the rain forest and orangutan rescue and rehabilitation. In addition, we partner with local organizations in the Boston area to preserve urban ecosystems in the US. We are always seeking partnerships to drive this experimental part of our business.
Although this form of social entrepreneurship is a new concept for IT services, it has worked in other industries, such as Dancing Deer Baking Company’s Sweet Home program.
Why the name Hutan?
The word Hutan means forest in Indonesian. The word orang means people. Orangutan means people of the forest.
